Useability - the Key to Website Success

August 10, 2009 by admin

Useability isn’t a word in the dictionary, however in the world of web design it means everything.  The concept goes beyond a visually striking web design, centering around a user’s ability to navigate your site well enough to reach their goal.

A professional looking website that conveys your brand and image will instill confidence in a visitor, but if they can’t find what they are looking for easily they will leave.   The key to keeping visitors on your site to view what you have to offer is well-designed, intuitive navigation.  This is not as easy as it sounds because users tend to search a site in three different ways: typing the target word into the search function, using buttons to click through pages, or by reading content and following navigation links.  A successful website will offer all three avenues of navigation.

When I design a site, I use design concepts that will provide a strong brand, communicate your mission or product succinctly and create navigation that happens intuitively so the user doesn’t have to think about anything except your product or services.
